California Chapter 1
Chapter Dues and What They Are Used For
Updated 05/31/2007
In an effort to help explain how member dues are collected and used we will post a graphical explanation as well as a summary of the Chapters operations. At this time specifics in dollars and cents will need to be obtained through your member at large or our Executive Director. You may also contact Mark Simonian, Chapter 1 treasurer. The financial year spans July through June. To simplify the review discussion is underway that the financial year will be converted to January through December.
There are two major Continuing Medical Education (CME) events each year. In May there is the three day meeting in Monterey which generates 24% of the income along with the December or Winter Meeting in San Francisco.
The majority of our income comes in from member dues (about 73%). Interest income represents about 3%

Chapter 1 Expenses are more complicated.
The District funding (26%) is distributed for the use of all four chapters and is not under complete control of Chapter 1 leadership. A portion of those District dollars is for lobbying and other legislative functions. Four chapter presidents, District Executive Director and District executives make the decisions about that group's budget. (I hope that the District or this Web site will explain how District funds are allocated.)
All other expenses are managed by the Chapter officers, Executive Director and Board members.
