   We have an Obesity Committee and an email list - POIG (pediatric obesity interest group).  Anyone interested in joining the committee should contact Dr. Lydia Tinajero-Deck through Members Only Channel through AAP Web site.
   Those who wish to join the POIG email list should contact Dr. Sophia Yen through the AAP Web site. The email list is open to anyone interested in obesity not just pediatricians and has medical students, residents,endocrinologists, nutritionists, public health officers, etc.
 
   There is also the EB-POIG which is the East Bay POIG that meets the first or second Tuesday of every month at Children's Hospital Oakland. They will be meeting to discuss plans to attack the problem at the East Bay level as well working with the community.

   CHDP now covers the cost of a fasting glucose and cholesterol for eligible children. The bulletin also outlines the referral and eligibility criteria for sending children to an endocrine clinic or cardiologist based upon their glucose, cholesterol, and family history.

   Girls on the Run San Francisco is a non-profit organization (serves SF, Alameda, Contra Costa and San Mateo counties) that combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) running race with healthy living education for 3rd - 8th grade girls. The programs instill self-esteem and strong values through health education, life skills development, mentoring relationships, and physical training - all of which are accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff, and the community.
